Old Man Winter and La Nina, kick off the New Year with quite the party. From southern Oregon, all the way to Seattle, heavy snow was the picture in the media. Floods were soon to follow, as heavy snow turned to heavy rain. Power outages ran rampart through the region. If ever there was a time to have an emergency survival kit this was it.

Christmas may be the time for rejoicing but this year, it is a different story. I may have faced hard trials in my own journey in life but as I witnessed the tragedy of Sendong ( the name given to the latest typhoon that hit Iligan City – Philippines), I am blessed that I have these things of mine right now – a simple house, not so nice dress, friends, and above all, a happy family.

An unusually bright and mild November has meant the UK midge population has been in good health which is bad news for us as we continue to be bitten into, what should be the winter. This November is being dubbed by many as the mildest we’ve ever had due to unusually high temperatures and amounts of sun. It would be understandable to expect waking up to a frozen landscape, and needing to deice the car before heading to work but instead most of us have been met by hazy November sunshine in the mornings.
